“Love Over Coffee” Casting Call for Short Film (Grand Rapids, MI)

Coffee shops are the number one place for first dates in America.

A short film, “Love Over Coffee” is holding a casting call for actors. The casting call will be held on June 11th and 12th from 12pm-4pm.

Plot Synopsis

Love Over Coffee details just one of many first dates Jason has had with countless women. To him, the coffee shop represents a revolving door of missed opportunities, boring conversations, and more than enough awkward silences to get a lifetime’s worth of caffeine fixes. To Katie, the bored waitress who’s poured him refill after refill all this time, work has literally become a daily grind. That all changes when Amanda, Jason’s next relationship hopeful, walks in. He assumes that she, like all the others before her, won’t provide the love he’s looking for. What he doesn’t count on is catching the eye of Katie, who’s finally ready to take a chance herself on going for what she really wants. Both soon realize that they’ve spent more time together and had better conversations then he’s had with any of the girls he’s invited there.

Through snarky, quick-witted dialogue, snappy one-liners, and a healthy dose of flirtatious attitude, Jason and Katie realize that love can find you in the simplest of places…the places you’re at everyday but don’t think twice about.

So breathe in the aromas, feel the warmth, and pour yourself a cup of love over coffee. Cheers to last first dates.

Available Roles:

  • Jason: (LEAD ROLE) – A newspaper editor in his late-twenties who waits to meet his next first date at the coffee shop. He’s your average nice guy with classic looks and a stable job. He’s also found himself in a rut with relationships. As he approaches the big 3-0, he realizes most of his friends are getting hitched, and he’s still single as ever. Understanding that 1 sometimes is the loneliest number, he decides to take a chance on Katie, the waitress who’s poured him more cups of coffee than he could ever count.

  • Katie: (LEAD ROLE) – A waitress at the coffee shop who has waited on Jason countless times before. She’s a bit of a spitfire with a great, warm personality and a quick-witted tongue. She doesn’t miss words and provides the clear lens that Jason needs to see that love could be where you least expect it: right in front of you.

  • Amanda: (LEAD ROLE) – A manager at the local mall’s teeth whitening booth, Amanda is another one of Jason’s first dates he’s had at the coffee shop. She’s the smartest “dumb blonde” you’ve ever met, providing some of Love Over Coffee’s most hilarious, outrageous, and just plain awkward lines. She can talk to you about anything and everything, nothing being over the line or off limits. She’s a hurricane in high heels ready to blow through Jason’s world.

Compensation:

There is no pay but there will be food, and a copy of the film and we will be submitting this to festivals.

How to Apply:

If you are interested in applying please notify us at YourEntourageAgency@gmail.com email your headshot and resume to: casting@areelcritic.com

NOTE: Please include the role you are applying for in the subject line of your email. Also, make sure to mention which date works better for you.
